Beginners often have a lot of problems with the game due to the fact that it is in English. And therefore, despite the fact that there are many hints in LoL, they often lose their meaning – a person not familiar with the language simply will not understand them. However, even if you speak a foreign language well, you may still have certain problems – the game has its own terminology. This post will help you get comfortable with the game and avoid many mistakes in the gameplay. Let’s go!

Game registration information
So, you found out about this game: you read my post describing the game, saw it in one of the streams on StopGame, heard from friends or found information about it on the Internet – and decided to download it and try to play (by the way, here is the link). You have overcome the difficulties of registering an account (the password must contain both letters and numbers) and downloading the game client. You valiantly waited until the game client downloaded the latest dozen patches, and you pressed the “Play” button. You entered your account login and password into the window that appears, and… from this moment, as a rule, the first difficulties begin. First the game will ask you what nickname you want to play under (Summoner’s name). Moreover, the login and nickname may not match (most often this happens). Do not write your nickname in Russian letters – such a nickname will simply not be displayed in the game. After you have entered your nickname, the game will prompt you to choose a picture of your nickname, choose any one – the picture is purely aesthetic in nature. Then the game will ask you to choose your level of proficiency in the game – choose Beginner – this is the best option, since later the game itself will determine based on your level of play which opponents you should select (although matchmaking very often suffers), and, accordingly, it is better to start from the lowest level – it’s more reliable. Even if in your first game you tear everyone to pieces, then in the next game you will kindly be given more difficult opponents. After this, the game will offer you to play the Tutorial Game – a short course in learning the basics of playing Dota, then decide for yourself whether you need it or not.
What is the game client?
So, you have logged into the game client using your account.
Let’s try to figure out what is here:
— in the lower left corner we see 2 buttons: the left one shows us our list of friends and the list of ignored ones, how many friends from our list are now online; with its help we can add new friends (or, conversely, remove them) or blacklist them. The right button is responsible for group communication: here you can join a group channel or create your own;
— in the lower right corner there is a message button from the game client; when you receive a new message, it starts flashing red. Also, with its help, we can agree or refuse to be added as a friend by another person and to be invited to a group match;
— in the middle of the screen there is a news feed for the game, containing links to the official website of the game, to the right is a list of functions. I advise you to pay special attention to the “Refer a friend” function – with its help you can send an invitation to download the game to your friends, for which you will be given various goodies, for example, free IP boosts;
– in the upper right corner there is a game profile control panel, here you can find out information about your profile (level, amount of experience required to get the next level, number of IP and RP, the presence of boosts are visible immediately – see. screen). The yellow button with a cart sends us to the store – there we can spend IP and RP to buy new champions, skins for them, runes and boosts. The button to the right (with the little man) allows us to see more detailed information about the profile (match history, general statistics), take a closer look at the available champions, and, most importantly, allows us to distribute talents and runes in advance. You can also find detailed information on available spells here. The button with a pen contains articles containing information about the development of the game world. Question button – a help button containing brief information about the device of the game client;
– the big red “Play” button allows you to start the game (your K.ABOUT. :3). With its help we can also invite friends to play;
— a picture with the game logo in the upper left corner of the client will allow us to return to the client’s start window.
I would like to immediately say about the instability of the communication system – it often crashes, in which case a “reconnect” button appears at the bottom – it will allow you to reconnect it.
Talents, runes, spells
At low levels you shouldn’t bother too much with this – we still have too few talents for them to significantly influence the outcome of the game, it’s better not to touch the runes at all until level 20 – they are weak, and the spells are not yet open. But sooner or later you will have to think about it, because correctly distributed talents and correctly chosen runes and spells provide tangible advantages in the game.

The first branch is for fighters, you can increase the damage dealt, attack speed, crit chance, etc.d. The second – for tanks – gives us armor, magic resistance (resistance), HP, evasion chance (dodge) and so on. The third branch – the support branch – increases mana generation, running speed, reduces cooldown time and contains a lot of other cool stuff. Distribute talents depending on what role your champion will play in the game. Please note that talents can be redistributed during champion selection before the game. I also recommend pumping up branches that improve the spells you have chosen, this can be very useful. Another note: it will not always be useful for a mage-fighter (damage dealer) to upgrade to the first branch – the third may be a higher priority for him.
With runes, as I already said, it doesn’t make much sense to bother with runes until level 20 – there are few free slots, and the runes themselves are not very strong. By level 20 you can already start choosing a kit for yourself; by this level you should already have a clear idea of what you will need most. Do not forget that runes, unlike talents, cannot be redistributed during champion selection – you can only change the page. Therefore, before you start searching for a game, you should redistribute the runes on the pages if you decide to play for another champion.
We will analyze each spell separately.
Exhaust (available from level 1)
Reduces an enemy champion’s movement speed by 40%, physical damage by 70%, and spell and item damage by 35% for 3 seconds.
Exhaust has been seriously nerfed with the latest patch, but it can still be useful (if you urgently need to slow someone down). In addition, it makes sense to throw it at enemy magicians before their procast (when they drain all their magic on you), for example, on Ryze, or on crazy melee players (damage dealers, most of whose damage is auto-attack), such as Tryndamere (especially if he is under ultimate). In the first talent tree, it can be strengthened (it will additionally reduce the target’s armor and resistance by 10, the duration will increase by half a second).
Ghost (available from level 1)
The champion gains the ability to pass through creeps and other champions, increasing his movement speed by 27% for 14 seconds. An extremely useful spell. Allows you to quickly run away/catch up. In the third talent tree, it can be improved (additionally increases speed by 6% and duration by one and a half seconds).
Heal (available from level 1)
Restores 140+20x per level of Health to your champion, and 50% of this value to allied champions around you. The spell is very useful for beginners, as it allows you to live longer)) And in later games it can be useful. Don’t forget that you can use it to heal your allies too, so don’t feel sorry for it if using this spell will save the life of your comrade. Improved in the second talent tree (reduced cooldown by 30 seconds).
Revive (available from level 1)
Instantly resurrects your champion and gives him a speed bonus for a while. The cooldown is very long – 9 minutes. In my opinion, the spell has no tangible benefit; it can always be replaced with something more useful. Improved in the second talent tree (for 2 minutes after resurrection, it increases your maximum amount of HP by 400 (bold!) and reduces the cooldown by 20 seconds).
Smite (available from level 1)
Deals 420+25x per level damage to an enemy minion or pet. The spell is of great value for junglers (swinging in the jungle), but if you are not one of them, then its benefit will be small. Often taken for the purpose of “stealing buffs” from enemy champions. Improved in the first talent tree (for use the player receives an additional 5 gold, reduces the cooldown by 5 seconds. If you have this talent pumped up, then use it on CD (cooldown) – you will get more money).
Teleport (available from level 1)
Teleports a champion to an allied minion or building in 4 seconds. The spell has an average value, useful for those standing in the mid (central lane) and in solo on any of the lanes, as it allows you to quickly hit the base and return back. It is noteworthy that it can be used on allied wards (see. below), Teemo mushrooms or Shaco dolls. Improved in the third talent tree (teleports faster by half a second, reduces CD by 5 seconds).
Cleance (available from level 2)
Removes stuns (stuns), fires (fear), taunts (taunt, forces you to attack the enemy champion against your will), silence (silence, inability to use abilities), slowdowns and other unpleasant things from the champion, and also reduces the effect of this by only 65% for 3 seconds after use. Does not save from other spells, such as Exhaust. A useful spell that allows you to protect yourself from an unexpected gank (kill). Nothing to add. Improved in the second talent tree (reduces CD by 20 seconds).
Fortify (available from level 4)
Makes allied towers invulnerable and increases their attack speed by 100% for a while. While this ability is active, you deal an additional 9 damage to minions. A useful spell, but having one large spell like this in a team is not recommended. Improved in the second talent tree (gives an additional 50% splash damage (area) to towers).
Clarity (available from level 6)
Restores 160+30x mana level to your champion and 50% of this value to allies. A useful spell for mages, especially at the beginning of the game, when there is no large mana generation yet. Allows the mage to stay in lane longer. Often its use can save your life (for example, if Kassadin does not have enough mana to blink). Improved in the third talent tree (restores to allies not 50%, but 100% of this value).
Ignite (available from level 7)
Deals 50+20x per level damage over time to an enemy champion over several seconds, and reduces healing and health regeneration effects by 50%. A very useful spell, it allows you to finish off an enemy whom you can no longer catch up with (if he is under a Ghost or has run away under a tower). It also makes sense to cast it on characters who are actively being treated (either themselves or with help), for example, on Dr. Mundo under ult. Improves in the first talent tree (gives 10 ability power while the CD is active, then you need to use it according to the CD, IMHO: 3).
Rally (available from level 8)
Places some kind of bullshit that lasts for 15 seconds, has 200+25x per HP level, and increases the attack damage of nearby allies of the champion by 10-35. To be honest, I have never used it, because I consider it absolutely useless. The bonus is small, and team battles are a fairly mobile thing, you can easily run away from this bullshit. Improved in the first talent tree (increases the duration by 5 seconds, and also gives a bonus of 20-70 ap (and this is already significant, but still not enough for me :3)).
Clairvoyance (available from level 10)
Removes the “fog of war” anywhere on the map for 6 seconds. A useful spell that allows you to track enemy movements and avoid an unexpected gank. Also allows you to see enemies hiding in the bushes. Improved in the third talent tree (increases duration by 4 seconds, reduces cooldown by 5 seconds).
Flash (available from level 12)
Instantly teleports your champion to a point within the. radius around the champion. An indispensable spell that, together with Ghost, greatly increases your mobility. A flash drive allows you to instantly break away from your pursuers or vice versa. It is noteworthy that with its help you can teleport behind the wall; such a flash drive saves your life in 90% of cases. Improved in the third talent tree (reduces CD by 15 seconds)
Tactical Tips
Here I will give some tips that will allow you to stay alive as long as possible.
– Listen (or listen)? Oo) to your allies, if they are not noobs, then they will report if the enemy champion has left the line, and you can prepare for his possible arrival or retreat to a safe place. For this, special terminology is used: ss (miss, mia) – means that the enemy hero has disappeared, after which a line is indicated (top – upper, mid – middle, bot – lower). If the enemy champion has returned, you must write re and indicate the line.
— The use of wards (invisible beacons that dispel the “fog of war” around them, more expensive versions also see invisible ones) at key points can save your life more than once or, conversely, help take away an enemy’s) An example of such points are bushes near the exit from the river to the line, a dragon, a baron (in a later game).
— If you lingered at the base (afk or bought an item for a long time), do not rush to go into the bushes on the line, unless an ally is already standing there – they may be waiting for you there. And when the first wave of creeps approaches, do not rush to leave – stand at a safe distance and wait until the enemy comes into view.
— Hide from enemy champions behind creeps, many of their abilities will then not be able to hit you. Try to hit creeps when they are already engaged in battle, then they will not attack you.
— Try not to attack enemy heroes under the tower – do not forget that in this case the tower will transfer fire to you! Beware of taunts under the tower (Rammus, Shen, Galio).
— If your team has a jungler, and he starts with a blue buff, don’t be lazy to stand on the approaches to him and guard him (if your line is mid, or the one next to which the blue buff is) — the enemy may try to kill him.
– Try not to walk alone through the enemy jungle – this can end badly. In general, try not to walk alone: unity and teamwork are the key to success!
— Don’t forget that some items can be activated by clicking on their icon in the backpack and get a nice bonus. Try to buy items that are strengthened by stacking (gradual strengthening) as early as possible.
— Follow the markers on the minimap! With their help, allies can warn you about the approach of the enemy, communicate their intentions or ask for help.
— Try to try out as many champions as possible in the game. Knowing the capabilities of a particular champion will greatly help you in the game. If you are afraid of losing to a new champion, use a custom game.
